Our Story

Well it all started with a drink at the WEBN Fireworks on Labor Day weekend of 2005. Sean (my best friend), Dixcee (his wife) and I went to a party on the river hosted by some friends, where I met Michelle. Literally and figuratively, sparks flew. After we shared a fruity concoction, we both knew that we were meant for each other. However, at the onset of our relationship, distance played a major role in complicating our journey together; but as with all great stories, love conquers all!!

For the next year and after spending most of our time traveling back and forth between Texas and Cincinnati (with little side trips to Scottsdale, Denver, Dalton, Indianapolis, and Lake Cumberland, and SEVERAL weddings intermixed), Michelle and I took a trip to Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, a much needed vacation for both of us! She had no idea though that I was planning our engagement trip. We spent just over a week in Tortola relaxing and getting caught up on sleep! We spent most of our days on the beach, eating at our restaurants on the property and walking the beach at night after dinner. We did rent a car to explore the island one day and went to Roadtown, Soper’s Hole and other various parts of the island and came to the conclusion that we definitely had the best place to stay on the island!! We opted for the all inclusive package, which proved to be definitely the way to go so we really didn’t have to go anywhere. The best part of the trip (aside from the awesomely exciting engagement) was our room on the beach. We fell asleep each night with open doors listening to the sound of the waves crashing against the beach…boy do we miss that!!!

Unbeknownst to Michelle, I was plotting the perfect engagement dinner the whole trip. Tortola’s famous for their full-moon island festivals (thanks for the tip JR), so I felt it apropos that we have a romantic dinner on the beach on a full moon night at Sugar Mill where I’d pop the question and then enjoy the island’s festivities, followed by a romantic walk on the beach. It was perfect! And as luck would have it, we found out just after we got back that the Travel Channel voted Sugar Mill as the 3rd most romantic restaurant in the world!

So with a romantic dinner, nice bottle of wine, and a diamond burning a hole in my pocket, after desert, I planned to get down on one knee and asked her to be my wife. She had no idea it was coming. We were holding hands at the table talking about our lives together and when I started to get down on one knee, she gave me this look like “What are you doing??” Her response? A whimpered Yes…

She spent the whole next day beaming with happiness! Now it’s off the races planning the event of our lifetime!!
